As a federal prosecutor, Scott served as lead trial counsel in high-profile trials and cases around the country involving a range of securities and commodities fraud schemes. Scott’s first-chair experience spans the financial markets, to include U.S. Treasuries, futures contracts, cryptocurrencies, equities, and private investments. Scott also supervised and led cases involving a range of conduct, to include insider trading, “cherry picking,” spoofing and wash trading, and open-market manipulation.

For years as a federal prosecutor, Scott worked in parallel with various civil enforcement agencies in his securities and commodities fraud cases, to include the SEC, CFTC, FINRA, and state enforcement agencies.

Representative Securities and Commodities Cases

  • Served as co-lead trial counsel against two senior traders at Bank of America who were convicted after a two-week trial for defrauding other market participants in a years-long manipulation scheme in the futures markets for several precious metals.

  • Served as lead trial counsel in a week-long trial in the first-ever trial conviction for conspiracy to commit securities price manipulation under Title 15 involving cryptocurrency and over $300 million in spoof orders and wash trades placed via an automated trading bot.

  • Served as lead trial counsel against two defendants convicted after a two-week trial for misleading and defrauding private investors and laundering approximately $650 million through financial institutions.
